SABC1’s 2017 newcomer Tjovitjo played out its Season 1 finale on Sunday night (12 November), with an awe inspiring foot-stomping and kasi rhythmic pantsula showdown.

SABC 1’s Tjovitjo recently became the most popular drama series on TV, with more viewers tuning in to the show than for local TV cult classics Yizo Yizo and Zone 14 in their prime.  According to television viewership statistics from the Broadcast Research Council of South Africa (BRCSA), the first episode of the popular SABC 1 drama series pulled over 5.7-million viewers in its first week.

It is not a suprise then that SABC1 has confirmed another 13-episodes of Tjovitjo, although  the premiere date hasn’t been finalised yet.

Speaking about the success of the show, which tells the story of a pantsula dance group who battle their way through struggles like poverty and hopelessness, lead actor Warren Masemola said it was a hit because of its “realness”.

Tjovitjo Cast includes: Warren Masemola (Ma’Fred); Lali Dangazela (Mandisa); Soso Rungqu (Kopano); Rapulana Seiphemo (Bro’Terror); Harreit Manamela (Ausi Tshidi); Sibulelo Gcilitshana (Queen); Khulu Sekhenjani (Phunyuka); Victor Mohale (Virus); Jabulile Mahlambi (Thandeka); Ntosh Madlingosu (Reverend Mabuse); Hlengiwe Madala Lushaba (Mamfundisi); and Fisiwe Kubeka (Mbali)
