And they were 10… The last standing SAMA 23 Record of the Year Award finalists who slugged it out for the top spot in the prestigious category. The Top 10 were announced on SABC1’s Live Amp mid-May to much excitement and fanfare.

Every artist had to immediately go into competitive gear during the four weeks of campaigning and  after hard fought public vote, only the best emerged.

RiSA CEO Nhlanhla Sibisi commented that there was  an exciting mash-up of genres and influences that reflect a vibrant South Africa music industry.

We were all looking forward to a nail-biting finish with music fans and supporters making their voice heard. Now we see some artists who did not win claiming the Awards were bought and sold. Does this imply that they felt entitled to the award they were nominated in?

Following the announcement, fans were encouraged to continue voting on *120*33123# until Saturday May 27 at 9pm, to ensure that their favourite song eventually scooped the trophy on the big night.

Honestly, anyone could have won this award. There was no guarantee.
