SABC1 sets the record straight on the broadcast of “Black Coffee: Africa Rising” show

SABC1 would like to set the record straight regarding its airing of Black Coffee: Africa Rising and Nathi “Black Coffee” Maphumulo’ subsequent tweet on Saturday, 29 July 2017.

SABC1 aired Black Coffee: Africa Rising on Saturday, 29 July 2017 at 20h00 and the music special was well-received by all who tuned-in on the day.

Black Coffee’s tweet on the social media platform, Twitter during the broadcast on the day which alluded that the SABC did not get permission to broadcast the show was factually incorrect. Speaking to the distribution company, Seed Entertainment’s legal team, they have since gone on record confirming that the rights to broadcast the music show were indeed acquired by the SABC and that Black Coffee’s tweet was incorrect to suggest otherwise.

The legal representative of Seed Entertainment, the distribution company that licenced the Black Coffee: Africa Rising to the SABC stated, “We can confirm that Seed Entertainment had licenced the rights for the broadcast of Black Coffee: Africa Rising music special to the SABC and that the broadcast of Africa Rising by the SABC was legitimate and in accordance with the appropriate legal agreements.” – Michelle Bruchez.

SABC1 prides itself with a rich history of supporting local artists and continues to do so beyond its broadcast mandate. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our viewers for the overwhelming positive feedback and their continued valued support.
