#RandShow Do not miss 2017 SA Drone Open Class National Championship

On Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 April the skies above the Main Arena will be abuzz with drones competing in the 2017 SA Drone Open Class National Championship event. Run by Fly FPV SA, a special interest group under the South African Model Aircraft Model Aircraft Association (SAMAA).

Drone racing, or more formally First Person View (FPV) racing, is the fastest growing “techno-sport” in the world. High-tech drones, or quadcopters, compete against each other in nail-biting races around a prescribed race track swooping through arched gates and around flags and obstacles at speeds of over 150km/h.

Pilots get an up-close view of the breakneck action through futuristic video goggles, which relay a wireless video feed from the tiny camera mounted on their radio-controlled quadcopters. Pilots will go head-to-head on a purpose-built track vying to set the fastest time in each heat. At the end of the competition the pilot with the fastest time will be crowned the SA Champion.
