eTV Rhythm City actor Dumi Masilela has died


It has been confirmed that Rhythm City actor Dumi Masilela died in a hijacking ordeal on Wednesday evening, according to The Sowetan.

“It is true. We are not sure of the details at the moment but we understand that he was involved in a hijacking on Wednesday and died‚” Rhythm City publicist Joe Strydom told TshisaLIVE.

According to police spokesperson Kay Makhubele, Dumi Masilela and his friend were shot at while driving on Wednesday night.

Dumi Masilela was followed by a black Jeep who shot on him in his upper body. According to Kay Makhubele, the friend rushed Dumi Masilela to hospital where he died on Thursday morning.

The actor‚ who played the role of Sifiso Ngema on the popular e.tv soapie had recently got married to former Muvhango actress Simphiwe Ngema.

When contacted for comment‚ a distraught Simphiwe refused to speak and put down the phone.

In a statement e.tv says “It is with great sadness that e.tv confirms the passing of Dumi Masilela. He passed in hijacking on Wednesday 2 August. Dumi played the role of Sifiso on Rhythm City for the past 5 years. e.tv sends their condolences to Dumi’s family, friends and Rhythm City colleagues”.
