Coke Studio Africa returns to television screens this August


Coke Studio Africa is doing things differently this year by introducing Coke Studio Africa 2017 to South African TV screens on Saturday, 12 August at 18:05 on e.tv.

The first episode of Coke Studio Africa will feature the likes of South Africa’s hip-hop artist Nasty C, and Nigeria’s Runtown will be performing some covers and will also be creating a new, original track.

Kenya’s Khaligraph Jones and Rwanda’s Bruce Melody will also be doing a performance, as well as Tanzania’s Alikiba, Nigeria’s Patoranking, and Ozane from Togo.

“This hit African music show is sure to bring together the continent’s numerous colourful and diverse cultures in a way that only music can. Coca-Cola South Africa is thrilled to be in its third year of providing African artists with a platform to discover and create, with the support of our longstanding relationship with e.tv. This season promises to introduce some new music styles to new audiences, for the very first time, bringing people together in a uniquely Coca-Cola way,” says Sharon Keith, marketing director for Coca-Cola southern and east Africa.

Some of the renowned names this season include Khaligraph Jones and Band Becca from Kenya, Rayvanny, Izzo Bizness, Nandy from Tanzania, Sami Dan from Ethiopia, Bebe Cool, Eddy Kenzo, and Sheebah, Ykee Benda representing Uganda, Nasty C, Busiswa, and Mashayabhuqe from South Africa, Youssoupha from Democratic Republic of Congo, Runtown, and Yemi from Nigeria.

Adding to the list are Dji Tafinha from Angola, Laura Beg from Mauritius, Jah Prayzah, and Slapdee from Central Africa Republic, Bisa Kdei and Worlasi from Ghana, Betty G from Ethiopia, Bruce Melodie, Shellsy Baronet and Mr. Bow from Mozambique, Denise from Madagascar and Ozane from Togo, Freeda from Namibia.

Key names in this year’s production are reputable producers such as Yuvir Pillay Nivedan (also known as Sketchy Bongo) from South Africa, Kiff No Beat from Ivory Coast, Nahreel from Tanzania, amongst others.

“Music has always been the heartbeat and soul of Africa, but the internet, social media and creativity is taking artists from their communities and allowing them to reach an audience across the continent, supported through initiatives such as Coke Studio Africa,” adds Sharon Keith, marketing director for Coca-Cola Southern and East Africa.

Like the previous editions, Coke Studio aims to inspire and introduce Africa’s musical talents to a wider audience through interaction, collaboration, and cooperation among artists and producers, while also building a connection with Africa’s young and growing population.

“Africa is full of great musical talent across a wide range of communities, cities, and countries, and Coke Studio Africa 2017 aims give these artists wider exposure while enabling them to create inspirational new sounds,” concludes Keith.
