Speaking to MzansiFresh, Kat had this to say, “Growing up in an area polluted with the sound of early birds, and the drum beatz from Xibelani women groups, Xi-Nxai Nxai, Trupa and Diphala, I became inspired to create music that celebrates our Africaness and to also preserve the music we inherited from our forefathers. Morality is the core of my music making. I want to be remembered as the first South African house/dance music artist to represent the voice of our indigenous arts into the international music scene”

Born in Stinkwater north of Tshwane, KAT MAKS indulged his passion for music at the age of fifteen performing at community halls, schools and local clubs. His musical career continued to grow and lead him to work with talented music educationist and recording artist C’nky Siwela as his mentor. In October 2012, KAT MAKS released his debut single “SANLOMA” produced by Lingas Entertainment producer and artist Josta SA. The song made waves and received positive response from fans around South Africa.

Drawing inspiration from the success of his debut single, Kat followed again with hits that opened doors for him to share performance stages with some of South African top artists and DJs including Black Coffee, AKA, Casper Nyovest, Oskido, Moflava, Dr Malinga, C’nky Siwela, Dj Fortee, Vetkuk versus Mahoota, The Josh, Udo, Bobstar, Chymamusique, Zulu Naja and others. His musical efforts have been featured and distributed on numerous local and international media.

KAT MAKS’ simple approach to dance music will position him as the emerging force and player in the international dance music scene. He has already clocked up appearances at many of South African’s top clubs like Lavianto, Top floor, Europa, Benjamin Highveld, Cantare-Monte Casino, Cheyenne Saloon-The Carousel Hotel, Graceland Casino, etc.

In 2014, Kat decided to give a little something back to the music and fashion communities of Tshwane by launching a party brand – The Annual Umswenko All White and Military clothing party. The event is held annually at Fero’s Pub in Stinkwater. This is done in partnership with Hobo ya Style Clothing label run by entrepreneur Nicholas Choc Ratau.
