Absa Premiership Weekend Wrap

on

Round 14 of the Absa Premiership saw Cape Town City retain top spot – though they now have Bidvest Wits breathing down their necks – while Kaizer Chiefs ended their long winless run with a dramatic victory over Polokwane City.

The action got under way on Friday night with a top-of-the-table clash between Cape Town City and SuperSport United.

The latter looked like claiming a victory at Cape Town Stadium – and avenging last weekend’s loss in the Telkom Knockout final – but a late goal from Lebogang Manyama secured a 1-1 draw (and top spot) for Eric Tinkler’s Citizens.

Saturday afternoon saw Chippa United return to winning form with a 2-0 victory over Highlands Park, while Maritzburg United extended their unbeaten run in the league to four matches by holding Platinum Stars to a goalless draw in Rustenburg.

The Absa Premiership will have its 15th round (and last of the year 2016) with a full set of fixtures played this midweek from December 20-22, including the return of champions Mamelodi Sundowns from their participation in the Club World Cup.
